Check Out the Brand New "Green"
Floating Marina at Cottonwood Cove
They cut the ribbon this month and the newest floating marina services building was open for business. It's said to be the greenest floating building in the world.
Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina, on Lake Mohave in Nevada, is now home to the first floating building project to be registered for LEED® gold certification. "LEED" means "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design." It is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Wide new slips and other upgrades make the Marina a sweet state of the art location to launch your Lake Mohave vacation.
Say goodbye to splinters with the new decking system. It looks like wood from a distance, but up close you might notice that it is not wood at all, but rather a mixture of 55% rice hulls (that used to go in the trash) and 45% recycled plastic.
Who knows, the next time you walk down the dock at Cottonwood, you might be walking on a plastic bottle that you once drank from!

Who's really looking at who?
The bighorn sheep are out in force in the Glen Canyon recreation area and sightings on the banks of both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave have really been "hoofing it in"
(couldn't resist that one).
Sometimes these "locals" are easy to spot (see above) and sometimes they blend in so well that you can float right by and not realize that there are several sets of eyes looking out at you.
So seriously, who's really looking at who?

Submissions should be inspired by the environment, wildlife, landscape and history of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and will be accepted through August 15, 2011.
You won't have to compete with the little ones either. There are several age categories:
